Kumquat is inspired by the tart kumquat tree outside of the sliding doors to my grandparents backyard oasis. They had the perfect back garden, equipped with bull-grass, stepping stones, a semi-outdoor greenhouse surrounding the indoor sitting-room. The pool with a diving board which provided hours of pruned fingered entertainment, a much less exciting jacuzzi tub and giant bushes full of somehow never-ripe lemons.

Their perfectly mid-modern Los Angeles Valley home was sold along with the memories… the furnishings and goods which once served as the foundation to my fathers childhood were anonymously auctioned off before I appreciated their importance. I wish I could get them back and add stories to the existing ones which each glass held.

At Kumquat we believe in the stories objects bring with them. The soirees, the cold nights, the wins and the losses of its previous residence. Breathing new life into a loved object is our jam. Dress it up, dress it down, live with it and let it serve the backdrop for new memories.
